What Is Art?
The well-equipped ceramics studio at IVS allows the students to work with a range of materials and firing methods. An integral part of working in this medium is the understanding of materials, which is incorporated in the studio course as the Material Science segment. This entails a study of raw materials through theory as well as analyses, tests and experiments undertaken to create clay bodies, glazes and slips. A close interaction with studio instructors, demos, regular critiques and discussions facilitate the students to develop independent bodies of work. If you’re more interested in the study of the literary arts, Boston University offers an introductory course called The Art of Poetry, which is focused on the pleasures of poetry and its underlying principles as an art form.
